Are Motorized Blinds Worth It?

One of the most exciting advancements in the world of window blinds is the ability to motorize them. This has become an increasingly popular option for households who hope to get more out of their blinds than simply using them as accessories. With just a press of a button, you are able to pre-set your blinds to adjust their position at any given time of day.

But are motorized blinds worth the investment?

We break down the advantages and disadvantages of motorized blinds.

The Pros and Cons of Motorized Blinds

Energy Efficient

With regular blinds, it’s fairly common to set them for the day (or week) and leave them.

Motorized blinds, however, allow you to better utilize the sun. In the winter, they can adjust to capture those sunbeams, thus warming your home and decreasing your heating bill. In the summer, meanwhile, the motorized blinds can lower as the sun hits the home. This will help keep the home cool and that energy bill down.

Protects Furniture

UV rays can actually be rather damaging to fabrics, resulting in discoloration and fading. Motorized blinds can act to block direct sunlight and help prolong the look and quality of your furniture.

One of the major benefits of blinds is that they offer privacy from neighbours or those passing by your home. However, regular blinds require you to be home in order to ensure the windows are covered.

Window in small, economic room

Motorized blinds, however, can be programmed to protect the home from prying eyes. Many have an “away” feature, thus adding an extra layer of security to your home when you’re away for extended periods of time.

If anything else, motorized blinds allow you to lean into your lazy side a tiny bit more. Nothing’s worse than when you’ve settled into bed for the night, and you realize you’ve forgotten to close the blinds. However, with motorized blinds, you won’t have to drag yourself out of bed for just the smallest task.

The cost is truly the one major downside to motorized blinds. As to be expected, they are much more expensive than your run-of-the-mill blinds. However, it’s important to keep in mind that you are now paying for a technology system, not simply fabric to hang in front of your windows.

Motorized blinds are an investment, but they could make all the difference in your home!
